Medicine has long been dominated by the priestly class, beginning with Imhotep in Egypt some 4,600 years ago. Things hardly changed two millennia later when Hippocrates held that most medical information should be concealed from patients. Smart phones have altered the fabric of everyday life, and medicine is next. The medicalised smart phone will uphold every aspect of health care, for the first time, the patient will take centre stage. The rise of A.I. will cause an ‘intelligence explosion’ at which point the rate of innovation will be so exponential that it will become totally impossible to foresee the future course of human history.
